The Preparatory English Program at KFUPM is designed to prepare non-native English speakers for academic study in English at the university level. The program's primary goal is to help students develop the necessary language skills to succeed in their academic coursework, in four specific areas; reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The PEP achieves this goal through a rigorous curriculum that focuses on building students' language proficiency incrementally. In addition, courses incorporate critical thinking, study skills, and independent learning while providing students with opportunities to familiarize themselves with the academic culture of KFUPM.
The length of study for the Preparatory English Program at KFUPM is typically one year, divided into four half-semester modules of 7.5 weeks each. Courses are taught on a continuum, with each new course building upon the lessons and knowledge of the previous course. The program is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in English, which will enable them to thrive in diverse academic contexts at KFUPM. Upon successful completion of the program, students will have the English language skills necessary to participate fully in academic coursework, engage in research, and communicate effectively with their peers and instructors.
